ASRC Federal Holding Company Operations Engineer in VANDENBERG AFB, California

ASRC Federal Space and Defense brings a 14-year history of delivering high-performance space systems engineering, integration and satellite operations services to civil and defense agencies. ASRC Federal Space and Defense provides these services throughout all phases of the program life cycle and across the entire space systems architecture, including space and ground assets.

AS&D requires a full-time Operations Engineer (Engineer 4) to support the Launch Systems Mission Assurance (LSMA) contract at Vandenberg AFB CA. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) of launch site operations, as part of providing mission assurance for Air Force Rocket Systems Launch Program (RSLP) projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the RSLP program office (AS&D and Air Force) during RSLP factory testing and launch site operations. These operations are performed by various launch vehicle contractors, supported by LSMA AS&D team.

  • Execute assigned mission assurance operations support per performance work statement requirements.

  • Create and maintain schedules of factory and field site operations.

  • Provide weekly (and as required) technical inputs to the LSMA project managers that summarize the technical and schedule status of factory and field site operations for assigned missions.

  • Support program design reviews and meetings as necessary to support the customer and LSMA Project Engineers in order to accomplish mission assurance functions, with particular attention on launch vehicle concepts of operations, test programs, and factory and site operations plans.

  • Support factory and field site activities for assigned missions. Travel is estimated at 25% of the time over the course of each year, but extended travel to launch locations for periods of 1-2 months may be required at times.

  • Interface with AS&D Project Engineers at Kirtland AFB, who manage the execution of all mission-unique Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) mission assurance activities.

  • Must have strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with contractor and government counterparts.

  • Demonstrated high initiative, proactive, low-maintenance, self-starter required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio) to perform technical writing, editing, and document formatting.

  • Ability to travel in support of missions, and the ability to support a variety of rocket systems operations at various ranges (VAFB, CCAFS, Wallops, Kodiak, WSMR, PMRF) is required.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors of Science degree, preferably in an engineering science. Relevant experience and/or certifications may be considered in lieu of a BS degree.

  • 10 years or more aerospace experience required.

  • Experience in the design, development, and field operations of launch systems is desired.

  • Aerospace/launch system factory and field site operations experience is desired.

  • Experience working with the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Rocket Systems Launch Program (RSLP) is desired.

  • An active Secret Clearance is required.
