The Payload Launch Sites Support Services (PLSSS) Program provides all launch processing support functions for Office of Space Launch (OSL). One of the program’s two primary operating locations is Vandenberg AFB, CA. Key elements of the PLSSS program scope include satellite launch processing, satellite transport operations, satellite propellant loading operations, and satellite processing facilities O&M, clean room operations, and safety and environmental services.

This position is in support of the Payload Launch Site Support Services (PLSSS) program at Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB). The candidate will serve as the Facilities Engineering manager and will report directly to the PLSSS VAFB Site Manager. The candidate will work with all members of the PLSSS team to include customers, peers, and subordinates. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a diverse group of engineering disciplines (project, electrical, mechanical, structural, controls) and is responsible for the sustaining engineering and operational support of payload processing facilities and various support facilities. The candidate will provide leadership and technical direction to manage and maintain a baseline system configuration on the PLSSS contract for all facilities/facility systems. This includes design, development, test and evaluation of various facility systems, development of test procedures, and successful test operations. Other responsibilities include the leading and managing of employee’s day-to-day activities, including tasking, priorities and the development and execution of sustaining engineering and maintenance, as well as engineering projects and proposals. In addition the candidate will be responsible for providing guidance and technical mentoring to staff, coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance management, reward and recognition. The candidate will be empowered to introduce new tools and strategic, innovative thinking to reduce costs and provide efficiencies in the way the engineering team operates.

This position will have the ability to work a standard 5x40 or 9x80 schedule, although during certain periods, a standard 5x40 shift will be required to support programmatic efforts.

Basic Qualifications • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience • Experience in leading multi-disciplined, high-performance teams • Experience working with facility systems • Strong communication skills • Strong technical writing skills • Strong project and schedule management skills • Experience briefing customers or management • Must be a United States citizen • Must be able to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance (with polygraph) • Must be able to travel up to 2 weeks per year, primarily to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station • Must be willing and able to work occasional odd shifts and extra hours • Experience with Microsoft office applications • Exhibit Full Spectrum Leadership Characteristics: shape the future, build effective relationships, energize the team, deliver results, and model personal excellence, integrity, and accountability
