A busy multispecialty ASC in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

The Purchasing/Supply Inventory Manager (or Materials Manager) is responsible for the facility inventory management plan to support patient care, and to achieve organizational goals as directed by the facility management. The Materials Manager works with Physicians, center leadership, and clinical teammates to order supplies and track inventory according to the patient schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage computer inventory system to purchase supplies, enter POs, and keep all digital and paper files up to date to track entire inventory management plan

  • Work in partnership with Physicians and teammates to obtain high quality supplies that meet the cost constraints of the facility

  • Negotiate with vendors to get best terms for facility

  • Plan and adhere to the center’s purchasing budget

  • Responsible for the receipt and distribution of supply, floor stock, office and stock supplies and rental equipment

  • Maintains adequate levels of inventory and returns/removes excess stock

  • Performs periodic physical inventories as assigned and according to identified schedules

  • Monitors, tracks, returns outdated supplies to ensure that no outdated supply is issued.

  • Ensures all receipts have purchase order numbers and are authorized.

  • Checks all incoming shipments for damage.

  • Follows major vendor contracts and policies

  • Provides economic and conservative management of facility property

  • Keeps all departments informed of shortages, back-orders, re-calls and any supply issues affecting requests/needs


  • High School graduate or equivalent; Prefer 1-2 years of experience in medical supplies/equipment and materials management.

  • Must be self driven, comfortable with budgeting, numbers, pricing, and paperwork details to manage supply budget day to day

  • Knowledge of inventory/stock procedures, equipment/supply orders, par levels, returns

  • Computer efficient with experience working with online inventory management systems

  • Great communicator across vendors, teammates, and Physicians

  • High attention to detail with superior organizational skills

  • Ability to frequently lift and carry articles 50 lbs. or over
