• Equivalent to completion of two years of college with a minimum of 10 semester hours in biological or chemistry sciences
• One year of experience in surveying, studying or evaluating fish or wildlife populations, data habitats or users, or working in a scientific laboratory involving environmental analyses.
• Possession of a valid driver s license.
• Physical strength and agility.
• Ability to swim 50 yards and stay afloat at least 5 minutes.
• Ability to function in rough seas without incapacitation due to seasickness.
• Ability to function conducting aerial surveys without incapacitation due to motion sickness.
• Ability to move 40 pounds.
The primary duties will involve working on federal lands conducting flora and fauna surveys, deploying and retrieving scientific equipment, and downloading electronic and geographic data to a computer. Additional work may include conducting surveys of vegetation and habitat, making appropriate contact with land managers and/or customers, and entering data. Employees will be expected to communicate regularly with a lead person and project managers about the status of surveys and data. Employees will be expected to safely perform fieldwork in rugged terrain and extreme weather conditions, including driving 4-wheel drive vehicles and hiking in remote locations.
Requires High School diploma or equivalent and one to two years of related experience.
