ManTech Environmental Scientist, Assoc in Lompoc, California

However, ManTech also has a small team (30 people) of biologists, ecologists and GIS professionals based out of California who work on federal contracts with various military installations across the Western region. This satellite team works with military and civilian personnel on federal landholdings to responsibly and effectively manage land and wildlife for conservation.
Our team is currently seeking a seasonal, temporary field biologist with experience and expertise in flora and fauna identification in the Great Basin region. Specifically, the field biologist will have excellent identification skills with birds, invertebrates, herpetofauna, small mammals and experience with auditory identification of birds, small mammal trapping with Sherman traps, camera trapping, area search surveys, etc. The biologist will have at least five years of experience performing biological surveys in the Great Basin region.
The position will involve highly variable tasks on a week by week basis. Depending on the candidate s expertise, time may be spent focused on a single task or work will alternate based on the survey target. Applicants with ESRI ArcGIS experience are strongly preferred. Depending on the skill and experience of the applicant, the surveyor may also be required to perform helicopter greater sage grouse-lek surveys during the appropriate time of year. Applicants must be able to work independently and responsibly in remote areas with minimal oversight. Strong references are required.
This temporary position is currently funded for approximately six months, but other opportunities may exist past this time frame for strong candidates. This work will likely begin in April and last through August. Housing is not provided and candidates willing to relocate or already residing in the Reno or Fallon, Nevada areas are strongly encouraged to apply.
• B.S. with studies in a science-related field. Work experience may qualify in lieu of a biological science degree.
• Demonstrated experience with Great Basin flora and fauna
• Ability to work outside in physically demanding situations
• Comfortable with a flexible work environment and potentially working weekends
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
• ATV and 4WD drive experience; manual transmission experience preferred
